Staff Report

Although Covid has changed so much, Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School students continue to get the hands-on experience that they need.

During the first quarter, Davis students who participated with Spirit of America got a chance to get out on Lake Erie to get boating experience. SOA offers premiere youth boating education with a hands-on, on water curriculum.

The program includes the Ohio Boater Education Course (OBEC), drowning prevention, equipment awareness, water safety, sailing, paddle boat, power and personal watercraft as well as large vessel education.

Spirit of America will have more opportunities at the end of the year and during the summer of 2021 for students who are interested, said Mrs. Melania Santos, Davis SOA liaison.

Davis students enrolled in the Intro to Sail class also got out on the water. In October, some 10th graders got a chance to learn the basics of sailing with the Foundry. Students sailed on Celebration, a Tartan 10 sailboat.
